Matt Fockler

Matt is a Socioeconomic Specialist with the Great Basin Zone of the Bureau of Land Management.

Matt began his career with the BLM in 2022. Prior to that, Matt was a professor of geography and environmental studies at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL and at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT. He calls himself a human and environment geographer and his research interests focus on how people, public land management agencies, and the environment collaborate to shape place. You can check out a current research project he’s finishing up on the U.S. Army Corps and its Upper Mississippi River shoreline Management.

Matt holds B.A.s in English and history and an M.S. in geography from the University of Nevada, Reno. He has an M.A. in Teaching from Sierra Nevada College and earned his PhD in geography from Montana State University. He loves all things outdoors, music, and learning. He lives in Reno, NV with his amazing wife Mary.
